A head-on collision between a Bank of Ghana (BoG) armoured van and a fuel tanker on the Techiman-Kumasi road Friday, sent thousands of Ghana cedis notes flying into the afternoon sky.
The severe collision also left the driver of the fuel tanker, Osman Zongo, dead.
Two other persons, the Driver of the BoG van, identified as William Asare and an assistant of the Driver of the fuel tanker, identified only as Yussif, are in critical condition.

Also, one cashier on board the BoG van is in critical condition.
The victims of the crash have been airlifted from the Techiman Holy Family hospital to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi.

JoyNews Bono East Region correspondent, Anas Sabbit, reports that at about 1230hrs GMT on Friday, the BoG armoured vehicle, with registration number GV 88 -13 which was travelling from Tamale to Kumasi, collided with a tanker with registration number DP 4222 - E at a section of the Techiman-Kumasi road near Opoku Agyemang Hospital.
He said the fuel tanker had begun its journey from Tema and was expected to offload in neighbouring Burkina Faso.
“The contents (money) of the armoured van scattered all over the accident scene. The amount on board the van was GHS60,500,000,” Anas reported.

A combined team of the military, Police, Fire Service, Immigration and the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) cordoned off the accident scene and collected the scattered money into various security vehicles.

Anas said he gathers that the cash collected from the scene of the crash will be kept at the Police Divisional Headquarters cells under the guard of the Military, Police and Bank of Ghana security officers.
