The latest movie, ‘Checkmate,’ from the stables of Sparrow Productions, drew a large audience at its premiere Thursday night at the National Theatre.
This is the fifth movie after the release of ‘Life and Living It’, ‘Scorned’, ‘Perfect Picture’ and ‘A Sting in a Tale’. The movies, directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso, have so far won the hearts of many for the high standards they exhibited and many have said her movies are among the few that hold hope for Ghanaian movies internationally.
Shirley,'s two movies, ‘Perfect Picture’ and ‘A Sting in a Tale’ together got 11 nominations at the 2010 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMMA) and hope to win some awards at the grand event on April 10 in Nigeria.
Unlike the usual intermittent power cuts that have bedevilled other movie premieres lately at the National Theatre, one will say Shirley was lucky to have premiered the movie twice the same day there and and walked away with a clean sheet.
‘Checkmate’ stars Nadia Buari, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, Ekow Blankson, KSM, with new entrants Senanu Gbedawo, Khareema Aguiar and Kwaku Boateng.
