The Head of Public Affairs at Cocobod has disclosed that the board will from the next Cocoa season introduce electronic scales to check the fleecing of Cocoa farmers in the country.
Fiifi Boafo said this is also to prevent Cocoa Produce Buying Companies (PBCs) from adjusting their scales and cheating farmers.
"We are now talking about introducing electronic scales which these people will not have the opportunity to adjust and our expectation is that beginning the next Cocoa season we will be introducing these scales," he said on Joy FM's Super Morning Show.
His comments come after JoyNews' Kwettey Nartey in his latest investigate piece 'Missing Kilos' exposed the exploitation of Cocoa farmers by PBC's in the country.
The documentary throws light on some challenges of the industry which includes the adjustment of scales by PBCs.
Mr Boafo who condemned the act said measures have been put in place to end it.
He says for now, PBCs who are found guilty of adjusting their scales are made to pay fines to affected farmers.
"We have reached a consensus with the licence buying companies that if any of them is found to have adjusted its scale, at the end of the cocoa season.
"We will multiply the kilos that were adjusted by the company and the quantity that was sold and give the monies to farmers who bought from them that season," he said.
