Several communities in the Tamale metropolis and Sagnarigu municipality of the Northern Region have been flooded following heavy rainfall in the capital Tamale.
The heavy downpour which started at about 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 4, continued until about 8:00 pm in the evening, flooding many roads in the region.
Some of the communities flooded include Sawaba, Taha, Gumani, Waterworks, Nyohini, Sagnarigu-Kukuo among others.
In addition to the heavy downpour, the Sagnarigu-Kukuo dam that serves as a water reservoir for the community also overflowed its banks, compounding the situation even further.
Several homes and properties have also been destroyed by the floods.
Some residents who spoke to JoyNews blamed the situation on the poor drainage system in the area.
This flooding has affected the transportation of persons, goods and commodities within parts of the metropolis.
Besides the destruction of their property, some residents are reported to have lost other valuable possessions including household appliances and important documents.
