An Accra Fast Track High Court on Tuesday dismissed an ex-parte motion filed by Gyedu Blay Ambuley, a renowned musician against the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). Ambuley, the plaintiff, through counsel, Mr Eugene Akoto-Bamfo was praying the court to restrain MUSIGA from holding its elections during their congress scheduled for November 14. Mr Akoto Bamfo contended that his client was a member of MUSIGA, adding that a vetting committee set up by the union was unconstitutional. According to Mr Akoto-Bamfo the union had never in its constitution set up any vetting committee to scrutinize members before its elections. When asked why his client appeared before the Vetting Committee on October 22, he said he went before the committee and realised that the power to vet him was not in MUSIGA's constitution. "Some members did turn up at the vetting others did not," he added. Counsel said he had earlier written to the union on the issue but there was no response. "We did not get any response from them until we saw in the newspapers that my client had been disqualified," Mr Akoto-Bamfo told the court. The court, presided over by Mr Justice Victor Ofoe directed plaintiff to come properly so that the matter would be set down for trial in order to determine whether or not the procedure of elections were unlawful or not.
