The high court in Koforidua has placed an injunction on the election of a Vice Rector for the Koforidua Polytechnic initially scheduled for Friday October 1. One of the disqualified candidates for the post, Martin Offei initiated the action to prevent the process, on grounds that he has been handed a raw deal by management. He is also suing a section of managers of the school to answer charges of unfair treatment meted out to him. Martin Offei says he filed for the position of the vice rector since he qualifies as an appointed director in charge of the ICT Department, a position he says is equal to that of a Dean as spelt out on his appointment letter. He says although he merits the Deanship status, since he is a ‘Senior Academic Member’ as required by the statutes of the polytechnic, management has for no apparent reason disqualified his candidature. Martin Offei adds that correspondence to management, backed by personal phone calls to the Acting Rector, Samuel Okae Adjei has not yielded any positive results. This he believes is a calculated attempt to get him off his quest to contest for the position as Vice Rector, hence his resort to legal redress. The Acting Rector, Samuel Okae Adjei has confirmed the injunction and said the election will be on hold pending the determination of the court action. He told Myjoyonline.com that the administration has 10 days to respond to the application and will respond appropriately. Story by Benjamin Henaku/Myjoyonline.com/Koforidua
