The President of the Legon Chapter of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Peter Mensah, is pleading with the government to create an enabling business environment for university graduates to help them start their own jobs.
He attributed his plea to the fact that some government policies restrain the establishment of some business ideologies.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s morning show on Thursday, Mr. Mensah stated that the majority of young graduates are equipped with great business inventions yet are unable to execute them due to the government’s constraints.
"All we want to plead with the government is that they should create the enabling environment to help students or young ones who want to go into business or entrepreneurship. The enabling environment should be created so that whatever initiative the youth come out with, it can strive.
"The sustainability of businesses and initiative is very key because sometimes government policies, in one way or the other stifle individual businesses, and that’s why people don’t want to take the risk to venture into entrepreneurship," he indicated.
He mentioned that the association will be launching its 30th anniversary celebration week. The programme will be loaded with numerous activities to engage and empower all young graduates to get involved in entrepreneurship.
As president of the association, Mr. Mensah implored the government to create a conducive business environment for interested people and young business idea holders.
He urged all graduates and students to help themselves and stop "pleading and crying over the government’s uncertainties."
The 2023 GRASAG week celebration will be launched on Friday, July 14, with loads of activities through to Sunday, July 22.
As part of the commemoration, the University of Ghana Business School, in collaboration with Apex Consult, will be holding a summit on Saturday, July 21, dubbed "What I Wish I Knew (WIWIK)" at R.S. Amegashie Hall.
The topic for discussion is "Thriving in Uncertainty: A Conversation on Intrapreneurship and Entrepreneurship."
It features speakers including actor, politician, and entrepreneur John Dumelo, President of UT Group, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Prof. Carol Javis, a Professor in Knowledge Exchange and Innovation at Bristol Business School, UK, and Human Resource Director of Vodafone Ghana, Hannah Ashiokai Akrong, among other prominent personalities.
The 30th GRASAG-Legon anniversary is themed "Empowering Graduate Students through Research, Entrepreneurship, and Business Development."
