The Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, has hailed President John Mahama for fulfilling his pledge to run a lean and efficient government, describing it as a hallmark of prudent leadership.
Speaking through Dr Jacob Mahama during a courtesy call on the President on Friday, June 13, the traditional leader noted that the slim structure of Mahama’s administration reflects a deliberate commitment to cutting waste, reducing redundancy, and maximising the use of available resources for the needed national development.
"The leaner cabinet you have established is a shining example of your dedication to efficient governance. By strengthening the cabinet and reducing the number of ministers and presidential staffers, you have demonstrated a commitment to eliminating redundancy. Enhancing productivity and ensuring that resources are allocated to where they are needed most," he said.
"This bold (decision) will see positive results for your administration and underscores your ability to lead the government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people," he added.
Before returning to the office as president of the state, President Mahama had promised Ghanaians that he would appoint no more than 60 ministers and deputy ministers if elected, in stark contrast to the ballooning size of past administrations.
The President has since received applause for staying true to this commitment, with many describing the move as a bold step towards restoring fiscal discipline and public confidence in the executive arm of government.
