The Department of Social Welfare (DSW), has instituted training programmes for care givers of day care centres, to equip them with skills required for the performance of their task. This was necessitated by the fact that reasoning and thinking capacity of children, how they relate with others and their emotional development depend much on training they receive during their formative years. Mr. Barnabas Adjin, Volta Regional Director of the Department, disclosed this at the graduation ceremony of 28 care givers in Ho on Friday. He said the Department would do everything possible to ensure that day care centres functioned according to expected standards towards the holistic development of children. Mr. Adjin urged managers of the centres to register their facilities with the Department and to improve upon standards for the effective training of children. Mr. Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, in an address read on his behalf, urged stakeholders in the development of children to pool their resources to effectively promote the welfare of children. He said it was the surest way to ensure that children enjoyed their basic rights to education, health and good nutrition as stipulated in the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Children.
