The Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Edudzi Godwin Yao Effah and Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Benjamin Dzameshie, have cut the sod for the commencement of three building projects at Agorvina in the Volta region.
These include the repair of a dilapidated bridge in Agorvinu near Atiavi, a classroom block and a public toilet all under the Gh¢1 million project.
The residents had their movements and economic activities disrupted, following a partial collapse of the bridge that linked them to nearby communities, making life unbearable for them.
The bridge, which linked them to Atiavi, Anyako and other nearby communities has been been a very bad shape for several years despite several complaints made to the authorities.
However, after the completion of the project, the people whose livelihood had been affected would now have easy access to other communities especially with regards to school children and vehicular movements
"When the bridge the started deteriorating, we were even afraid of using it as it was at a near collapse, now that the MCE wants to help repair, it will help us greatly in our daily activities and also boost the local economy," a resident told JoyNews.

At the sod-cutting event, Municipal Chief Executive for the Keta Municipal Assembly, Edudzi Godwin Yao Effah, noted that government is committed to making sure its promises are fulfilled.
Mr Effah said the renovation of the bridge was necessary to facilitate easy movements of the people in the area.
"The immediate renovation of the bridge is a relief to the people who have had to live with the dilapidated nature of the bridge for years but government being a listening government has decided to fulfil its promises to the people to make them happy because they deserve it," Mr Effah noted
The three different projects which are under the Coastal Development Authority - an institution with a focus on the development of communities along the coastal belt will, according to the Mr Effah greatly help the residents.
Mr Effah said the government's focus is is to make sure development is felt everywhere in the country through social intervention policies which include planting for food and jobs, one district one factory policy, among others
The three projects include a 20-seater water closet toilet facility at the cost of Gh¢364,266 at Kedzikope, a 6-unit classroom block facility at Sasieme at the cost of Gh¢591,188.59 and a 22-meter concrete footbridge over the Agorvinu river at the cost of Gh¢475,000 would be funded by the one-million Dollars per constituency allocation from the Ministry of Special Development
They are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
According to him, the Kedzikope toilet facility project is in line with the Assembly’s resolve to ensure total eradication of the canker of open defecation in communities within the municipality.
The NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Dr Benjamin Dzameshie who was also at the program said it is important for Ghanaians to retain the Akufo Addo government so that more projects can be brought to the various communities
According to Dr Dzameshie, the NPP led administration has done so much that needs to be emulated and needs another term to continue with the good works
