Upper West Regional Director of Education, Fabian Belieb, has called for more resource allocation to the education sector. He said for Ghana to achieve the national education delivery goals, there was the need to show commitment to resource allocation to help improve the quality of teaching and learning, management efficiency, increased access and participation in education delivery. Mr Belieb was speaking at the Regional Education Sector Annual Review (RESAR) meeting in Wa on Wednesday to assess performance for 2009. According to him, the education system had become more complex with the implementation of the new education reforms and other interventions, changing the national objectives and goals. He said this has necessitated the proper and regular education reviews to meet the hopes and aspirations of Ghanaians. Mr Belieb said in line with this, districts needed to continually update their educational strategic plans, annual district operational plans and annual action plans to strengthen strategic planning to meet the service's organizational demands. He called on district directors to rationalize activities undertaken by their respective directorates to ensure realization of benchmarks enshrined in the educational sector strategic plan and the achievement of the education reform goals. These activities should help increase enrolment at the pre-tertiary level of education, reduce drop-out rate and increase performance as well as retention and transition rates, he added. Source: GNA
