Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West Constituency, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, has come at media houses for giving ear to stories from people he has described as his detractors.
He said media houses are supposed to know better and play their critical role as fourth estate of the realm, protecting Ghana’s democracy instead of paying attention to individuals bent on discrediting his efforts.
The MP was responding to an earlier media briefing by pressure group, Proper Ghanaian Movement, where traders at Texpo market and other constituents shared their concerns with Joy News.

“As fourth estate of the realm, don’t allow yourselves to be used. You’re supposed to be showing the development taking place here and not to be giving space to some individuals who are bent on thwarting my effort to help develop my area”
“We’re building Astro turfs, canteens and dining hall for schools and weighing centres in the health sector. If you’re to rank constituencies in terms of development, mine will be in the first ten,” the MP said.
According to him, all participants in the Proper Ghanaian Movement’s briefing were not traders, with a chunk of them being hired goons.
“It is unfortunate that the group behind the press conference had bought into the dirty politics of National Democratic Congress (NDC) who just want to discredit the work I have done and unseat me”
In the earlier briefing, participants touched on poor nature of some roads but Mr. Ahenkorah vehemently opposes this.
“If anybody would insult NPP in Tama West, it shouldn’t be with roads. If I'm not mistaking, about 70% of all major roads here have been constructed from Communities 5,2,3 through to Sakumono, Lashibi and other parts”
He added that bridges have been constructed with the road at Adjei Kojo being the only challenge.
He, however, said the project has been reissued to a new contractor.
In the Proper Ghanaian Movement’s briefing, angry traders said Carlos Ahenkorah and Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, Anna Adukwei Addo, had failed to deliver promises of building a befitting market.

In response to this, the MP assured the traders at Texpo that the market will be constructed once parties litigating over the land in court come to a compromise for the land to be used.
He mentioned that he recently fixed lights at the market and traders have been acknowledging his effort as against claims that he had reneged on his promises.
In support of the MP, traders including Juliana Adu Boahen who is the Texpo market queen for used clothes dealers said the women who granted the interview in the earlier briefing pretended not to know the litigation surrounding the land.
Sister Ama who operates an eatery at the market indicated that although concerns raised in the said briefing are legitimate, the MP has asked all traders to remain patient as parties settle issue surrounding the land in court.
“Our MP has been very helpful. He responds to our cry anytime we call on him. The other traders are just being insensitive”
Other members of the New Patriotic Party in the constituency believe some persons are out there to tarnish the image of Carlos Ahenkorah since he stands a chance of retaining his seat in the 2024 general elections.
