The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has called on political parties on the African continent to prioritize national cohesion over the individual victories of political parties during elections.
Speaking at the opening day of the African Political Parties Summit 2025 in Accra, the Vice President stressed on the need for cooperation and tolerance among political parties towards the advance ment of peace, development and progress on the continent.
"Our people deserve more than politics for politics sake; they deserve food security, decent jobs, functional schools, Healthcare, infrastructure, security and justice", she noted. Prof Opoku Agyemang stressed on the need for political parties to rise above narrow interests and adopt the long view, working together with political opponents.
Touching on the essential role of the ongoing summit, the Vice President noted that as part of the legacy of the summit, political artists present should adopt the African Political Parties Initiative as a platform for dialogue, capacity building and sustained cooperation.
Prof Opoku Agyemang acting in the stead of President John Dramani Mahama, formally opened the summit which is expected to provoke a revolutionary mindset shift regarding African Political leadership over the next three days.
