Minority members of Parliament’s Communication and Information Committee have hit back at the Communications Minister, Samuel Nartey George, accusing him of inconsistency in the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice over DStv subscription charges.

In a statement signed by Ranking Member Matthew Nyindam, the minority questioned why Sam George, who previously vowed not to accept any solution short of a 30% reduction in subscription fees, now appears to be backing DStv’s proposal to upgrade packages instead of cutting prices.

They recalled and quoted him in a media encounter, saying: "I will meet the Ghana and South African team in my office, and I am clear in my mind that the meeting will not come to an end without an agreed reduction in price. I have seen the attempt by the South African management to say that when you buy a package, they should upgrade you to the next one. We are grateful, but that is not what we want."

They added," It appears his stance has shifted. The question remains: who is incompetent — him or the minority members?” they asked.

The minority further demanded minister inform every Ghanaian of his reason for changing his initial stance on not accepting any upgrade, but a price reduction of not less than 30%.

Additionally, they demanded that the Communications Minister account for revenue accrued from the GH₵10,000 levy imposed on DSTV, which they say has been in effect since the service began operations in Ghana.
