The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced dates for the upcoming District Level and Unit Committee elections at Nkronza North and South districts.
In a press statement Tuesday, the EC said the upcoming election, slated for April 16 has been necessitated by the expiration of the term of office of the Assembly and Unit Committee Members of the two districts.
The electoral management body explained that this is in accordance with the District Level Elections Regulations, 2015 (C.I. 89).
According to the Commission, persons interested in vying for the position can obtain forms at the district offices in the concerned areas or on the website of the Electoral Commission.
Also, it stated that nomination forms are to be "delivered in quadruplicate by the Proposer or Seconder together with two post-card sized copies of recent photographs (bust) to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Area for which the Candidate seeks election from Tuesday the 9th to Friday the 12th of March 2021, between the hours of 9.00 am and 12.00 noon and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day."
Further, "The Nomination Forms for each candidate in the election to the District Assembly shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of the Proposer and a Seconder and supported by 18 other persons who are resident and registered to vote in the Electoral Area".
For the Unit Committee election, however, the nomination for each candidate "shall be witnessed by the signature or mark of a Proposer or Seconder and supported by eight other persons who are resident and registered to vote in the Electoral Area".
The Commission urged the residents of Nkronsa North and South to channel all electoral-related issues to the District Offices within the areas.
