The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reportedly blocked more than 15,000 electricity meters in Nsawam and Amasaman as part of an ongoing revenue assurance exercise.
The action, undertaken over the past two weeks by ECG’s project unit, targets meters suspected of having been procured outside the company’s approved installation procedures.
The move is aimed at addressing revenue leakages linked to unauthorised or improperly documented connections.
Customers affected by the exercise have been directed to report to ECG’s project office located behind the VVIP bus terminal at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra’s Central Business District to regularise their connections.
Due to the blockage, many customers are unable to recharge their meters once existing credit is exhausted, leading to disruptions in power supply.
To restore their meters, customers are required to pay a total of about GH¢2,053.60, covering administrative, application, and quotation fees.
The exercise forms part of ECG’s broader strategy to improve revenue collection and enforce compliance with its operational guidelines, with the company expected to intensify monitoring to curb further irregularities.
