The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says it will furnish the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) with details of the reading of the new prepaid meters today, following the recent tariff hikes.
“What we are also supposed to do is to send some comprehensive report on some issue raised. In fact we are in the process in getting back to them”, Member of the ECG tariff team, Ebenezer Baiden noted, adding that the ECG has complied with all the directives of the Commission
Consumers have been complaining about anomalies with the meters after the ECG implemented a 78 percent adjustment in tariffs last month.
Ebenezer Baiden told Joy News that many of the complaints were borne out of misinformation.
He observed that when implementing new systems, there were bound to be teething problems and challenges that come along with the adjustments.
“Some are due to some misinformation to the customer”, he noted.
As a result of the problems consumers are facing, Mr. Baiden indicated that the ECG has published the rates to help consumers determine the right amount of units they are purchasing.
According to him, consumers were not well informed before going to purchase the electricity units as some just went to the vending centers just a day to the announcement of the tariff adjustments.
He is therefore asking persons who are having problems after going to the vending point for the second time to visit the ECG office "and we will explain it to you”, Mr. Baiden indicated.
