Greater Accra Region Physically Challenged Educational Fund was launched on Saturday with a call on government to provide scholarships for children with disability from the basic to tertiary level.
Mr Joseph Adu Boampong, National President of Ghana Society for the Physically Disabled who made the call said the Society would identify and advocate for better socio-economic facilities for its members and in addition, collaborate with government and other NGOs which had their welfare at heart.
He said there was the need for society to be educated about the need for disabled children to attend school like their colleague able bodied children.
Madam Victoria Donkor, Director, Special Education Division of Ghana Education Service said some parents had negative attitudes towards their children with disability.
She said as a result they refused to send them to school adding “Such parents must be educated on such negative attitudes and mindset”.
Madam Donkor urged the public to show love to the physically challenged and help them to develop their talents.
