The Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions has lauded the GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Promasidor and Kasapreko Ghana Limited for operating effectively in compliance with the necessary standards.
Members of the committee who embarked on a monitoring tour of selected entities in Accra as part of their oversight responsibilities expressed satisfaction after the exercise.
Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Appiah Boateng, said they were convinced that the companies were on track, particularly regarding employee welfare.
They made the remarks after fruitful discussions with the firms.
"I think they are on track; nothing is perfect, but I think they've done well, which we need to applaud them, there's more room for improvement; so far, I think it's so good," he said.
The chairman also indicated that the committee will draft its reports and review them after the engagements, and the recommendation to the trade minister and Parliament will inform whether the government should support them regarding their clearance issues, among others.
Deputy Ranking Member on the committee and Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, said visiting these companies and witnessing their operations gave him hope that many of the teeming youth will be employed by the private sector.
He also called for continued and effective public-private sector collaboration to further transform the country’s economy.
Managers of the companies commended the committee and pledged to implement the recommendations proposed to ensure efficiency.
The committee’s two-day tour will take members to about nine different companies in the capital, Accra.
