The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, says he is undertaking a strategic working visit with key power sector stakeholders to study global best practices in energy storage as Ghana prepares to implement the first phase of its landmark 200-megawatt Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 22, Mr Jinapor said the visit is enabling the delegation to engage with global pioneers in the energy sector to gain first-hand knowledge of world-class operational frameworks, technological innovations and modern approaches to energy storage.

He noted that the engagements are intended to support the successful deployment of Ghana's planned battery energy storage infrastructure.

According to the Minister, observing utility-scale battery energy storage facilities in operation is providing valuable technical insights that will help shape Ghana's renewable energy agenda.

"This hands-on benchmarking is vital as the government rolls out the first phase of Ghana's landmark 200MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)," he wrote.

He added that, "Witnessing these sophisticated, utility-scale setups in action is giving us the exact blueprints needed to ensure our upcoming solar-integrated grid deployment is resilient, highly efficient, and built to world-class standards."

Mr Jinapor said the initiative forms part of the government's broader efforts to modernise Ghana's power sector, strengthen grid reliability and accelerate the integration of renewable energy into the national electricity mix.

The Battery Energy Storage System is expected to enhance energy security, improve the stability of the power grid and support the country's transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
