Singer Mzbel has admonished entrepreneurs to learn the art of budgeting and maintaining financial records.
She says individual business owners need to create their own formula and techniques based on their strengths to enable them to sustain their businesses.
The songstress who spoke to Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz show said the failure of most celebrities to succeed in business is because they are unable to apply the discipline of financial management.
“I have some celebrity friends who have pubs, but they don’t save. They just walk into the restaurant or bar and ask how much money has been made. Give me GH₵1,000, and within a short period of time, it disappears. You have to save and have your account right,” she urged.
As a multiple-business owner, she explained how she developed the skill to successfully manage her finances without employing an accountant to sustain her firm.
Based on her experience, she believes that doing things one's own way allows for comfort and ease of flow in the operation of their company.
However, for those who may prefer to apply the hierarchical structure of entrepreneurship, she encouraged them to still add their own skills to be able to harness growth.
The singer-entrepreneur said, “When you do things the way you understand, it’s comfortable and easy. But if you want to follow how everybody is doing it, you must have an accountant, and he or she will tell you how things should be done.”
“For government sake, certain things are supposed to follow. But you should have your own flexible way of running your business, and it will work because it has worked for me,” she added.
She also challenged all entrepreneurs to instill discipline, be ready to embrace the "bitter" aspect as it arises, and keep their enterprises moving forward.
