The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has announced plans to begin the certification and registration of Environmental Management Practitioners, in line with the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).

In a public notice issued on January 6, 2026, the EPA said the new law mandates the Authority to regulate, certify and maintain a register of individuals and firms providing environmental management services in Ghana.

Under Section 31(1) of the Act, only practitioners certified by the EPA will be authorised to offer such services.

The register of certified practitioners will be published on the EPA’s website and in the Environmental Bulletin established under the Act.

The Authority is also empowered, under Section 32 of the law, to conduct environmental monitoring to ensure that approved environmental management systems and strategies are properly implemented by regulated entities and practitioners.

The EPA said the notice is intended to alert stakeholders ahead of the rollout of the certification regime, adding that training schedules, application procedures and detailed guidelines will be announced in due course.

Environmental practitioners and other stakeholders have been encouraged to take note of the development and prepare accordingly.
