Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s newly appointed Minister for Defence, has received warm congratulations from the European Union Delegation to Ghana following his recent nomination.
He was officially sworn into office last week by President John Dramani Mahama, marking the beginning of his tenure in overseeing Ghana’s defence and security operations.
Assuring the new Minister, the EU has reaffirmed its role as a trusted and reliable security partner of Ghana.
Over the years, the European Union has cultivated a strong relationship with Ghana in the areas of peace, security, and defence, working closely to enhance the country’s military capabilities and regional stability.
As part of this ongoing partnership, the EU has been actively involved in delivering critical military equipment tailored to Ghana’s specific security needs.
This cooperation has significantly strengthened the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, ensuring they are better equipped to respond to emerging security challenges.
The Minister of Defence is expected to discuss with the EU delegation an upcoming delivery of military equipment at the end of February, as part of a €50 million package aimed at bolstering Ghana’s defence capabilities.
It is expected that with continued cooperation and shared strategic interests, Ghana and the EU will strengthen their security alliance for the benefit of Ghana and the wider West African region.
