Jasmine Seyram Akorshie representing Miss Zenith College walked away with the coveted prize as Face of Tertiary 2009, Friday night at the Accra International Conference Centre. The night saw 18 beauty queens representing Zenith College, University of Ghana, Accra Polytechnic, Wisconsin University, University of Education Winneba, Institute of Professional Studies, Central University College, Ghana Institute of Journalism, Kumasi Polytechnic, Bolgatanga Polytechnic, University of Development Studies, Cape Coast University, Catholic University College, among others contesting to crowned Face of Tertiary 2009. There were two rounds of competition where the contestants did individual talent performances and a question and answer segment. The final 8; Miss University of Education Winneba (UEW), Face of Legon, Miss Zenith College, Miss Catholic University, Miss Bolga Poly, Miss Wisconsin, Miss University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Miss University of Development Studies (UDS) went through a final round of presenting their research findings on Child labour. After performances from Rough N Smooth, 2 Puff, G2, Grey and Kochoko of Mobile Boys, Macho Rapper, Walter D, Kazuka, and others, Jasmine was announced winner of the event. She walked away with a Proton car, a monthly salary of GH¢120.00 and a ticket to represent Ghana at the finals of Miss World University Pageant to be held in Seoul, South Korea in March this year. The first runner up, Miss UEW, Augustina Damalie walked away with GH¢1,000 and a washing machine whilst the second runner up, Miss UCC, Abigail Bofa took away GH¢700 and a cooker. Miss Zenith College again was awarded Miss Talent, Miss Eloquence went to Miss Kumasi Poly and Miss Personality went to Miss Bolga Poly. Jasmine in an interview with Myjoyonline.com attributed her success to her confidence. She admitted that a lot more needs to be done to curb the increasing rate of child labour in the country. She said she will closely work with the government and NGOs to help a least put about 50 per cent of the children already in child labour out of it.
