The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has called on the government to expedite the construction of the amphitheatres it has promised the music industry.
A press statement released by the Acting President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons on World Music Day, mentions that building more performance centers will enable the musicians “to perform more regularly to improve their revenues and also afford the general public the opportunity to enjoy live music performances.”
“As we celebrate World Music Day after, also known as Fête de la Musique, which is an annual celebration that promotes the power of music and its universal language let’s be minded about what the day stands for,” the statement further highlights.
According to Bessa Simons, the World Music Day encourages musicians of all genres to perform in public spaces, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for people to enjoy music worldwide.
“It is a day that musicians and music lovers from around the world come together to perform and enjoy various genres of music on this special day,” he writes.

He adds that as Ghana gains international appeal through the ‘Beyond the Return’ agenda, avenues for musicians and performers to showcase their talents will be a huge boost for the agenda.
The issue of lack of performance centres has been on the table on a lot of media platforms over the years.
After reneging on its promise to provide nine (9) theatres across various regions, the government has made another promise of building five (5) amphitheatres.
On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey cut a sod for the first out of the five amphitheatres in Kumasi.
Stakeholders of the music industry are expecting that both the government and private investors pay more attention to the arts in this regard.
