Fettehman Senior High School established by the United Nations to educate refugee settlers who fled to Ghana during the Liberian war is currently facing a severe survival challenge due to the lack of adequate infrastructure.
Insufficient government support has made the delivery of teaching and learning increasingly difficult, leaving both teachers and students to contend with numerous hardships.
The school, situated in the Gomoa East District, is grappling with limited resources and facilities, leading to teachers trekking miles to school daily due to the lack of accommodation.
Additionally, the absence of a dining hall forces schoolchildren to eat their meals under trees, leaving them vulnerable to the elements and compromising their learning experience.
The situation has become more dire as the headmistress, responsible for monitoring student activities, also lacks accommodation on campus. Teachers are also struggling to find housing, further adding to the school's challenges.
Elvis Joe Annan, the Board Chairman of the School, expressed concern over the overwhelming population of over 1400 students that does not correlate with the inadequate infrastructure.
In response to these challenges, the school has initiated the construction of a bungalow complex for the headmistress to improve on-campus monitoring.
However, additional support is required to complete the project.

Mr Annan called on the government to intervene, emphasizing the need for urgent action to address the pressing issues.
The lack of even a kitchen to prepare meals has raised further concerns about the student's well-being.

During the school's 10th-anniversary celebration, Mr Annan urged authorities to take action and fix the challenges the school is facing, considering its significant impact on the Gomoa enclave.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, who attended the event, called on the Member of Parliament for the area, Desmond Degraft Paitoo, to raise concerns on the floor of Parliament.
This appeal was made to ensure that the school's predicament receives appropriate attention and support amid competing demands for various projects.

Headmistress Stella Mawutor Kwame stressed the urgency of having well-equipped facilities to improve students' overall performance.
She expressed hope that the government would extend a hand of support to address the school's struggles.
Central Regional Director of Education, Emmanuel Essuman, acknowledged the challenges faced by Fettehman Senior High School and assured that efforts are being made to resolve them.

In a bid to recognize the hard work and dedication of students and teachers, awards were presented to outstanding individuals during the anniversary celebration.
