Barely 24 hours after Myjoyonline.com posted a story about veteran actor, Kofi Adjorlolo saying although he admits that the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) has the right to ban, the ban placed on him was unwarranted, the film producers’ body has reacted harshly to those comments. The actor had told Myjoyonline.com that it “was not necessary; it was unwarranted because they (the producers) didn’t even tell me what caused the ban.” “I believe that everybody has the right to ban a member of that association if the person goes wrong [constitutionally],” but he, Kofi Adjorlolo found it rather problematic to be banned by an association he is not a member of. The actor, together with Ekow Smith Asante, were banned by the film producers’ body for 24 months for engaging foreigners to shoot a film in Ghana without the requisite documentation. The ban was later lifted but not before they had served about eight months. But the Public Relations Officer of the association, Socrate Sarfo says Kofi Adjorlolo got it all wrong, explaining that he was sidelined and not banned. “Kofi Adjorlolo was never banned by the film producers association,” Socrate said. According to him, the association, “decided not to work with him by sidelining him and any producer at all who is not a member [of FIPAG] has every right or the freedom to work with him. We did not stop him from working or stop anybody from working with him. We decided that our members should not engage him in any way,” he added. He stressed that they explained the sidelining to him, in the media and in several other mediums and therefore are surprised that he, Kofi Adjorlolo, should be expressing shock at the decision. The FIPAG PRO denied assertions that they acted out of their boundaries (which is only members of FIPAG) and therefore didn’t not see the essence of Kofi Adjorlolo’s comments. Socrate Sarfo concluded that if Kofi Adjorlolo thinks he did not offend anyone, then why did he come out to apologise, show remorse and ask for forgiveness which led to his ‘sidelining’ being lifted.
