A Benz cargo truck transporting over 2,500 bags of rice from Côte d'Ivoire to Kumasi was severely damaged by fire in the early hours of Monday, August 25, following an incident along the Adugyama-Bechem highway, near the Star Oil Filling Station at Adugyama.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Tepa Fire Station received an emergency call at 4:53am and promptly dispatched a crew of five firefighters, led by ADOII Heneampong Williams.
The team arrived at the scene at 5:40am.

Upon arrival, the crew worked swiftly to combat the flames, managing to bring the fire under control by 6:40 am and completely extinguishing it by 8:13 am.

While the truck, bearing registration number GT-1350-U, sustained significant damage, the firefighters were able to salvage over 600 bags of rice from the inferno. The driver’s mate suffered a minor injury but is reported to be in stable condition.

GNFS says that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The firefighting team returned to base at 11:10 am after successfully containing the situation.
