The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced fresh steps towards the mass registration of Ghanaian children aged between six and 14, following a high-level meeting with the National Identification Authority (NIA).
In a statement shared on Facebook on Friday, February 20, GES management confirmed that it had welcomed a delegation from the NIA led by its Executive Secretary, Wisdom Kwaku Deku. The discussions focused on preparations for the forthcoming nationwide registration exercise.

According to the statement, the meeting centred on strengthening collaboration between the two institutions to ensure the process is smooth, coordinated and effective across the country.

Key issues examined included logistical arrangements, planning frameworks, communication strategies for schools and parents, and a clear delineation of responsibilities between GES and the NIA.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to supporting what it described as an important national assignment. The Service pledged to facilitate access to basic schools and to work closely with its regional and district education offices to ensure the exercise is implemented efficiently.

The registration drive is aimed at enrolling children within the specified age bracket into Ghana’s national identification system.
Authorities say the initiative will play a critical role in national planning, improving access to public services and strengthening identity management systems.

GES has urged parents and guardians to cooperate fully once the exercise commences, stressing that accurate registration is in the best interests of every Ghanaian child.
