The Ghana Education Service has ordered investigations into a case in the Western Region in which a senior high school student is being prevented from writing the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The 19-year-old final year student of the Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High School, Stephen Ayensu, has been suspended indefinitely for allegedly raping and impregnating his Agric tutor’s daughter.
He will also not sit the 2010/2011 WASSCE because of what school authorities say has been his poor academic performance.
But Master Ayensu’s family is not happy with the decision.
Public Relations Officer of the GES Charles Parker Allotey told Joy News the investigations should provide the way forward in the matter.
He said even if Master Ayensu was found to have indeed impregnated the girl, it would be wrong to bar him from sitting his exam simply because of that.
Meanwhile in an unrelated development, the GES has released a supplementary list of placements for BECE candidates.
Mr. Parker Allotey said this should end complaints about wrong placements and associated issues.
