The Ghana Education Service has warned that no headmaster has the authority to refuse admissions to SHS one, and advised that all grievances must be channeled through the Ministry of Education. The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Charles Parker Allotey, says that there will be new intakes into all Senior High Schools this year contrary to reports by some heads of schools that the non-availability of facilities will make it impossible to accommodate new students in September. Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Parker Allotey said that although some heads have noted their qualms on the issue due to the extension of course duration from three to four years, he assured that by September when the new admission is expected to start, more facilities will be made available for the second cycle schools. He added that at the moment, construction is going on at priority areas or schools of high demand and is optimistic that by the time admission commences in September, the new facilities will be ready. He said, they have communicated with head of schools to find temporary locations to accommodate students till the facilities are ready. Meanwhile the Accra Regional Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Joseph Amoah, has told Asempa News, contractors are working around the clock to get the facilities ready by September. Mr. Amoah revealed that at least five schools in the Tema metropolis will have their facilities completed by October as stipulated by the consultants on the projects.
