The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organize a testimonial match in honour of former Black Stars captain and striker Asamoah Gyan.
The country’s football governing body says the match will “celebrate his illustrious and immense contribution” to Ghanaian football, with further details expected in due course.
Gyan retired in 2023 following two years of inactivity at the age of 37.
He holds the record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars.
The former Sunderland forward is also Africa’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, with six goals across three tournaments - Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.
At club level, he began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving abroad to join Udinese in Italy. He later played for Modena, Rennes, and Sunderland.
Gyan also had stints with Al Ain and Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates, Shanghai SIPG in China, and Kayserispor in Turkey, before ending his career at Legon Cities FC in Ghana.
