Ghana and Nigeria are undoubtedly two of Africa’s well known countries who are by far best of friends and also hold two of the fiercest rivalries in all fields of endeavour.
Their rivalry spans decades either in football, music and movies – of course Nigeria has, if not, lost its grip on the football front after losing a string of matches it has played against its West African neighbour.
So imagine artistes of these two countries who have in one way or the other helped shape Africa's image in the eyes of the world, mount one stage just to battle it out in what many will tag as ‘the battle for music supremacy’ – of course words can not describe the results, it is for the eyes and ears to judge.
This ‘battle’ will be staged at the maiden Ghana Meets Naija concert to be staged at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre come Republic Day, July 1.
The event, spearheaded by the nation’s entertainment powerhouse, Empire Entertainment, will witness an unprecedented list of some of the biggest names in both Ghanaian and Nigerian music and probably Africa as a whole, in a concert only fit for the gods of music.
One will wonder if the Dome will be able to handle the enormity of this event considering the long list of ‘giant’ acts billed to rock the concert.
Now imagine, the Cool Temper man, J-Martins, 9ice of Gongo Aso fame, Mr Bumper to Bumper, Wande Coal, and 2Face 'the sexy' Idibia, all in the Green and White corner for Naija, locking horns with the winner of the Hiplife song of the Year, Castro, the Boogie Down Nima generals and winners of the prestigious Artiste of the Year at the 2010 Ghana Music Awards, VIP and the ever green Swagger Boyz, Ruff N Smooth and a host of others in the Red, Yellow, Green with a Black Star corner for GH.
With such an impressive line up, what else could one expect?
Definitely a night of fireworks; a night where the stars will lit up the African skies at the Dome.
The Ghana Meets Naija concert was officially launched at a colourful event at the plush Royal Richester Hotel in Accra on Wednesday.
The launch was attended by some of the acts who promised to leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of entertainment-loving Ghanaians in both Ghana and Nigeria.
The acts at the launch included J Martins, 9ice, Lazy of VIP, Coded and Fresh Prince of 4x4, Ruff N Smooth and Kwaw Kese.
Kwabena Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray, CEO of Empire Entertainment in an address revealed that, the Ghana Meets Naija concert has been a long cherished dream that has finally come to pass.
“We’ve been nurturing this for sometime, two great countries, we have a lot in common and that is music and what a way to do it by bringing all the stars from Nigeria to Ghana for one big concert,” he said.
He promised that, “1st of July, we are going to give you something that is mind blowing, something that is unprecedented – never happened before,” adding, “certainly, Ghana meets Nigeria is going to be one of the biggest shows, if not the biggest to be staged in Ghana.”
The concert, Bola Ray hinted will also be stage in the UK at the O2 Arena in August this year followed by the crowning of the concert on October 1 in Nigeria.
Ghana Meets Naija is powered by Empire Entertainment and is sponsored by rlg and Smirnoff Vodka.
