President John Evans Atta Mills has expressed concern on the position adopted by Ghana on the Ivorian impasse. The President says contrary to talks in certain quarters that Ghana has taken sides and reneged on its commitment to the ECOWAS, Ghana supports the declaration that Mr. Ouattara won the November general elections as well as sanctions being imposed on Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking on the occasion of exchange of New Year greetings with members of the diplomatic corps at the Flag Staff House on Friday night, President Mills said the only thing he has done was to consult with his military high command who advised that Ghana was in no position to supply troops if a military option is to be taken.
President Mills said Ghana is concerned with the situation in Cote d’Ivoire and will do all it can to secure a just, endurable peace in the neighbouring country. He advised that the situation in that country should be handled with the greatest care.
The president expressed the commitment of Ghana to efforts at making the world a safer place for all mankind. On the local front, President Mills reiterated the commitment of his administration in accounting for every pesewa of Ghana’s oil earnings.
