The Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 73, Lt Col Antony Ntem has assumed command of the Ghanaian Battalion Area of Responsibility in UNIFIL, Lebanon.
He took over the reins of authority from Lt Col Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu the commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 72 on 1 November 2010 at a brief but impressive ceremony held at Obeng Camp, AL WAZAH, where the headquarters is located in Southern Lebanon.
The ceremony was witnessed by high ranks in the United Nations fraternity as well as other nationals from different contingents who are also deployed in Southern Lebanon to assist in the peace process.
Delivering his farewell address, the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lt Col Gbetanu attributed Ghanbatt 72’s success to teamwork, dedication to duty, professionalism exhibited by all ranks of the battalion and esprit de corp. He encouraged all ranks to always keep the flag of Ghana high.
Lt Colonel Gbetanu used the occasion to express his appreciation to Commanders of UNIFILL at all levels for the support and guidance he received from them during his rein as a Commander.
On his part, Lt Colonel A. Ntem pledged his Battalion’s unflinching support to the quest for lasting peace in Lebanon adding that the UNIFILL high Command could count on Ghanbatt’s loyalty as they will surely deliver. He thanked the Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 72 for according his Battalion such a warm reception.
In his remarks, the Sector West Commander Brigadier General Gugluiemo Migletta commended Ghanbatt 72 in the able manner they carried out tasks assigned to them and expressed satisfaction in their work. He urged the incoming Ghanbatt to maintain the standard set by their predecessors.
