A Ghanaian national with a conviction for credit card fraud has been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after attempting to secure immigration benefits in the United States.
According to a Facebook post by U.S. authorities, the individual visited an immigration office in Columbus, Ohio, seeking relief despite having a criminal record.
Officials said he attempted to conceal his past conviction during the process.
However, immigration officers uncovered the fraudulent conviction during checks, triggering immediate action.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were then called in and took the man into custody.
The post did not disclose the suspect's identity or indicate when the fraud conviction occurred, but it underscored U.S. authorities’ stance that criminal history can significantly affect immigration applications.
The case adds to growing scrutiny of immigration benefit applications in the United States, particularly those involving foreign nationals with prior criminal records.
