Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor says Ghanaian pastors tend to support Nigerian musicians more than Ghanaian singers.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, on Hitz FM, Celestine Donkor said that Nigerian singers receive higher compensation compared to Ghanaian gospel acts for their performances during events held in Ghana.
The 'Agbebolo' hitmaker noted that while Nigerian artists might command fees as high as $10,000, their Ghanaian counterparts frequently encounter challenges in securing even ₵10,000.
“We have our big pastors, I don’t want to mention names but you can see a whole Ghanaian church line up only strictly Nigerian artists and in the case where they put a Nigerian and Ghanaian together, they are paying Nigerians way better. If the Nigerian is taking $10,000, you are struggling to earn ₵10,000," Celestine Donkor told the host, DJ Slim, on Thursday.
She argued that artists from both Ghana and Nigeria pay in dollars to promote their music on YouTube, emphasising that this payment structure remains consistent for all nationalities.
As such, Nigerian artistes enjoy an advantage when they receive better pay at events, Celestine Donkor noted.
“I have been on plenty programs where Nigerians are on and we know how much they are paid and we (Ghanaian Gospel singers) are paid insignificantly low," she added.
