A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Nyama, has rebuked the Nyhiaso MP, Dr Stephen Amoah, following comments suggesting that former President Nana Akufo-Addo sidelined him in favour of Dr Mohammed Amin Adam for the position of Finance Minister.
Mr Nyama said such claims were misleading and ignored the competence that informed the appointment.
In a Facebook post on Monday, January 12, Mr Nyama said Dr Amoah’s comparison of himself to Dr Amin Adam was unjustified, arguing that the former Finance Minister had demonstrated exceptional economic insight long before his appointment.
He maintained that Dr Amin Adam’s selection was based on merit rather than ethnic considerations.
According to Mr Nyama, Dr Amin Adam assumed office at a challenging time for Ghana’s economy and delivered results that later became evident.
He said the improved economic performance toward the end of 2024 was a clear indication of Dr Amin Adam’s capability and sound leadership.
“When you sit on radio and television and say the NDC is reaping the benefits of the NPP’s policies on the economy, who was at the helm? It is Mohammed Amin Anta,” Mr Nyama said in a video posted on his social media, insisting that credit must be given where it is due.
Mr Nyama further questioned Dr Amoah’s suitability for the role, stating bluntly, “Can you imagine you being the Finance Minister? Ghanaians would have even laughed at us.”
He said the NPP must be honest about competence and performance, rather than promoting narratives that undermine the party’s record in economic management.
