Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe has said that the Service will consider introducing a system that allows people who are not satisfied with their Covid-19 test results to challenge it.
The comment comes on the back of allegations of falsified antigen test results at the Kotoka International Airport leveled against the Service.
Responding to a question posed by host of the Super Morning Show, on Joy FM, Kojo Yankson, on whether there is any mechanism for persons who doubt their results to challenge it, Dr Asiedu-Bekoe said there is none at the moment.
He noted however, that this is possible in the near future.
He said guidelines on handling a novel pandemic such as Covid-19 are bound to be reviewed, therefore, if the need for a review arises, efforts will be geared towards that.
He further condemned the bastardisation of the current testing regime, insisting that it is authentic, genuine, and reliable.
He said the system has been the reason why Ghana has been able to contain the minimal importation of the pandemic.
"We are looking at a very sensitive instrument which is the antigen test and because it's extra sensitive, it's possible we may have a few positives.
"There have been instances where people have doubted the results but after some time, they've come to accept the truth," he said.
Though he admitted that there have been instances of false positives, he said such cases are rare.
