The Ghana National Association of teachers (GNAT) has condemned recent attacks on teachers at Duffor and Agbekotsekope in the Dangme West District.
GNAT is calling on the police and the District Security Council to ensure that the youth do not carry out further violence against the teachers.
In January this year, irate youth invaded the Methodist Basic School in Duffor and assaulted the headteacher and other teachers in protest against what they say is the poor performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
A similar incident played out at Agbekotsekope also in the same district and the teachers’ umbrella body says it will no longer entertain such barbarism.
Madam Irene Duncan Adanusa, the General Secretary of GNAT has warned that while the association intends to seek legal redress over the incidents, it wants the police to treat the cases as crimes that should be prosecuted.
The schools have since been closed down and the teachers withdrawn.
