The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, has said Government would take adequate steps to motivate teachers and enhance their welfare to improve education in the country. He said Government would also build more school infrastructure and provide and resource libraries, science and computer laboratories, and make available textbooks and other teaching and learning materials. Mr. Mabengba said these in a speech read on his behalf at the third Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Tamale International School at the weekend. The Regional Minister asked teachers to upgrade their knowledge and skills, to enable them to work effectively to raise the standards of education in the country. He commended the school for maintaining 100 percent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination since its establishment, winning eight president awards and Brain Box, Spelling Bee and Quizzes competitions. Dr. Francis Obeng, Chairman of Board of Governors of the School, said the school was established in 1990 as a private entity until 1997 when it was fully absorbed into the public school system. He commended the Parent-Teacher Association for supporting the school to provide infrastructure and equipment, and paying salaries of 21 employees of the school. Dr. Obeng, however, appealed to Government, individuals, organisations and the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to assist the school to provide more infrastructure, to enable it to admit more students. Madam Elizabeth De-Souza, an opinion leader in the in the region, observed that the world was experiencing an educational revolution and appealed to teachers be creative and promote education towards the development of education. Mr. Braimah Justice Sule, Headmaster of the school, said the school started with 10 pupils but currently has 478 school children.
