Government has rejected claims that companies producing plastics are not enjoying the 5 percent reduction in the environmental tax.
Government slashed the tax from 20 to 15 percent in this years’ budget statement. A number of companies in the sector have however complained they are still being levied with the original 20 percent tax.
The Business-Guide Newspaper reported the Ghana Revenue Authority as saying the reduction has not been implemented because the Finance Ministry is yet to initiate its legislation.

After the budget was passed, certain laws were passed immediately and other were passed a short while afterwards. With respect to the environmental tax, parliament passed Act 840 which was approved in April to replace Act 512 and therefore the reduction in the tax has taken effect. he explained.
