President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that in view of the imminent participation of the country's national teams in international competitions, a decision would soon be taken on the resumption of contact sports.
In his 16th address to the nation on measures taken to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country, he noted that government is engaging stakeholders on how to safely open up the sports sector while taking into consideration the necessary measures to curb the spread of the virus.
"As a known lover of football, I know how devastating its absence has been, and it is my hope that very soon we will all have the pleasure of playing and watching the beautiful game again," he said.
President Akufo-Addo said until a conclusion is arrived at concerning the reopening of the sports sector for activities, only non-contact sports were allowed to take place.
He said all other institutions that had been cleared to function were to continue to do so in strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.
