The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season will kick-off with Friday night football, at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, October 29.
Accra Lions, who will play host to Elmina Sharks in the first game of the 2021/22 season, will be hoping to make a good start in what will be their debut season in top-flight football.
The Accra-based side secured qualification to the Premier League after their triumph in Zone Three of the Division One League.
Sharks, on the other hand, were fortunate to have survived relegation on the last day of the season, courtesy a vital win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko on the final day of the 2020/21 league season.
With Nii Odartey Lamptey still at the helm of affairs, the side from the Central region of Ghana will be looking to improve and have a better campaign ahead.
Ebusua Dwarfs suffered the drop last season and as a result, Sharks will be the only club from the Central region in this season’s Premier League.
Accra Lions, who scored the most goals in Division One last season, have made quite a number of new additions to their squad for their time in the Premier League.
The quality of Rainer Kraft’s team was evident during the maiden edition of the Division One League Super Cup, where they finished third in the competition.
It will be interesting to see how the competition plays a part in their opening game against Sharks in Accra on Friday night.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Kraft complained about the timing of the Division One League Super Cup, indicating that the competition could have been planned better, and not so close to the new Premier League season.
