A business executive Ms Adelaide Ahwireng has advised young graduates not to wait to be employed out there, but rather network to make use of their knowledge acquired to form business partnerships. “Rely on good relations, networking, coaching and counseling among yourselves,” she said and added that in all that they should never forget to rely on God for guidance and direction. “Though partnership ideas in Ghana are not encouraged because most Ghanaians do not trust each other, it is worth trying,” she told 42 graduates students on Friday, who qualified and received this year’s University of Ghana Vice Chancellor’s awards. The award dubbed the Vice-Chancellor’s Dinner for Academic Excellence is presented annually to the best graduates of students in various disciplines that the university offers. Ten other needy but brilliants students also received scholarship awards from the Sadhu T.L. Vaswani/Indian Association Scholarship. Ms Adelaide said opportunities in the job market were reducing day by day because of the huge number of graduates that came out every year from the nation’s universities. She said young graduates must be versatile and not to limit themselves to what they study alone but to venture into other fields where they could excel as well. “A lawyer could turn into a farmer, geologist could be a business man. Be prepared to venture into other fields of endeavour,” she said. She said though the business environment in Ghana was unpredictable, good understanding of the system, careful planning, optimism, integrity and clear vision could lead them on to success. Professor C.N.B Tagoe, the Vice Chancellor told the award winners that the university created the congenial environment for them to achieve what they had now, but much more was required from to excel out there. Mr Teddy Konu, the Registrar of the University briefly explained that the essence of the award was to recognise excellence and honour students who follow their academic work diligently and excelled.
