A violent clash between youth from Ekumfi Eyisam and Mankesim Edumadze in the Central Region has left several people injured, following tensions that escalated after a beach rave in Saltpond.
According to a report by Citi News, the confrontation began with an altercation between two individuals from the rival communities during the event. Matters worsened on Saturday night after a member of the Eyisam community was allegedly brutally assaulted, triggering reprisal attacks.
Youth from Ekumfi Eyisam reportedly mobilised and stormed the Edumadze community, leading to chaotic scenes and violence in parts of the area. “Gunshots were fired during the incident,” Citi News reported, adding that one person sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
The report further indicated that another individual suffered injuries from an acid attack, although the person’s whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of filing the report.
Residents described the situation as tense at the height of the clashes, with fear spreading through both communities as the violence unfolded. The incident has raised concerns about youth violence and security during festive and social events along the Central Region’s coastline.
Police and other local authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm arrests. However, reports suggest that calm has since returned to Ekumfi Eyisam and Mankesim Edumadze after interventions by community leaders.
The clash adds to growing concerns about sporadic violence linked to social gatherings in parts of the country, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security and conflict-resolution efforts at the community level.
