Rapper Guru, born Maradona Yeboah Adjei, has begun his campaign to contest for the Student Representative president at the University of Ghana.
Guru officially shared posts to his social media platforms welcoming returning students to school as an SRC Presidential Candidate hopeful.
“Dear Legonites, I’m thrilled to have you back in school. Let’s kick off this semester with positivity and enthusiasm! MARADONA YEBOAH ADJEI (GURU -NKZ) UGSRC PRESIDENT HOPEFUL’24. #Building the SRC with Everyone for everyone #Let’s all get involved,” he captioned the post.
This comes weeks after Guru made known his intentions to contest in the University of Ghana's Student Representative Council elections.
In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, the rapper said that not only has going to study at the university been his dream, but he had always wanted to make a contribute to the institution in any way he could.
He noted that as a result, he worked hard in his early years at the university to ensure he had good grades - a prerequisite for the selection of SRC candidates.
Additionally, Guru said that he has always worked with the SRC on many projects.

“I was also helping and sponsoring some of the hall weeks. And I was willing, I was collaborating with the SRC…We tried doing a lot. I helped in organising the Evandi Hall Week Celebration. I was able to bring Mr Drew and co and it worked so well. I was about to do the Commonwealth (Hall Week). I had so many proposals just that we couldn't execute it because the days on, the brouhaha started,” Guru said.
The musician, who is not deterred says he is looking forward to doing more for the institution while he studies there.
This is not the first time an artiste has shown interest in school politics and positions.
In 2022, Reggae/Dancehall artiste Samini contested and won the SRC elections at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He was sworn in as the President of the SRC in August that year.
