Flagbearer of All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has tasked the Electoral Commission (EC) boss, Jean Mensa, to work tirelessly at curtailing possible challenges in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Addressing the media at the EC’s headquarters where he filed his presidential nomination forms Thursday, said proper measures must be employed during the elections to restore the hope and confidence of electorates in the Commission.
“Because it is a provisional register, definitely there are little challenges that will be encountered, so we don’t believe there will be a perfect thing all round – indeed the challenges will come and go.
“Let’s try as much as possible to look at the challenges so that we can have a peaceful election because a peaceful election depends on the Electoral Commission.
"How it is conducted, how persons with grievances are managed, and how you run this election, will determine how peaceful it will be,” he said.
Mr Ayariga added that the EC ought to spread the message of peace among all other political parties.
The APC Presidential candidate further advised the EC to ensure strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols on election day.
Meanwhile, filing of nominations for the presidential and parliamentary race ends on Friday, October 9.
