Proprietors and heads of private basic schools had been called upon to help the children to uphold the values of integrity, discipline and hard work. The Reverend Evelyn Adu-Dapaah, Proprietress of Glory-Vel School at Kyirapatre in Kumasi, said it was by doing this that the nation would be assured of a better and secured future. "We have a duty to assist these young ones to grow into responsible adults and protect them from crossing the boundaries of acceptable moral conduct." The Rev Adu-Dapaah, who was addressing the seventh graduation ceremony of the school held for a total of 115 pupils, said academic pursuit should go hand-in-hand with sound moral teaching. There were poetry recitals, cultural performances, and a cadet parade as part of the event. The Rev Adu-Dapaah said their goal was to turn out students who are not only academically brilliant but of good character. The school, established in September 1994, with only three pupils now has a population of 600. It had 100 per cent success with some of the candidates scoring distinction in the 2009/2010 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). She praised the staff for their hard work, dedication and commitment. The Head teacher, Mr Thomas Arthur, advised the pupils to work harder to make it to the top by avoiding mediocrity and seek excellence.
