The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed that the High Court has officially withdrawn an arrest warrant issued against the Director of Passports, clearing the official of any involvement in a case concerning the alleged issuance of multiple Ghanaian passports to one Mr Dominic Williams.
In a press release issued on Thursday, May 23, the Ministry noted that the Director had no connection to the incident, which occurred before they assumed office on 19 August 2024.
“The matter has been fully resolved, and the Director of Passports has been cleared of any wrongdoing,” the statement said.
“It is important to emphasise that the incident in question predates the Director’s assumption of office.”
According to the Ministry, records indicate that Mr Dominic Williams acquired his first Ghanaian passport over twelve years ago, with the most recent one issued on 16 January 2024—a full eight months before the current Director took over leadership at the Passport Office.
“The Ministry takes this opportunity to thank the Judiciary for its swift and impartial handling of the matter,” the statement added.
The Ministry also used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring the public that measures are continually being strengthened to uphold the integrity of passport administration in Ghana.
“We continue to strengthen internal systems and processes to safeguard the integrity of the passport issuance regime,” it said.
“The Ministry remains committed to serving the people of Ghana with professionalism and dedication.”
The initial warrant, which sparked public concern, was linked to a broader investigation into passport fraud. However, with the latest development, the Ministry is seeking to restore public confidence in the institution’s leadership and operations.
